In addition to the many bicycle routes that are available through the Dallas Bike Plan on our city streets, Dallas and the surrounding area have many parks and paved trails for safe biking, walking, running and skating. Just click on one of red icons on the map to go to a description about that park or trail.

E-mail me if you have any info on trails that you enjoy that aren't listed here. And remember to always ride on the right hand side of the trail, announce when passing on the left and always wear appropriate protective gear, including a helmet.

If you have any digital pictures or maps of these trails, please share them with us. They will make a great enhancement to this website.

Diamond Rio 500 64-MB USB MP3 Player

The tiny Diamond Rio player plays MP3-encoded digital music, the open Internet standard that's shaking up the industry. It stores your music files in RAM instead of on CD or tape, so it has no moving parts and it can't skip. Great for biking or running. Create mp3s from your favorite CDs that you can listen to while exercising and working out.

Texas Bicycle Driver Rules
When you ride a bike in traffic you are a driver. You must follow the rules of the road, give signals, obey signs and lights, yield the right of way and keep a sharp lookout for danger - just like car drivers do. To help you be a lawful and safe bicyclist the following laws are listed for you to study, learn and obey.

Dallas Bike Plan
The Dallas Bike Route System is a numbered grid of bicycle routes and is intended to be a commuter tool and guide for recreational cyclists. These routes are designated on white on blue rectangular signs on city streets, and include a route number, directional arrow, and the ultimate direction that you are traveling. They are located along the route and at any place where the route changes direction. North/South routes have two digits and East/West routes have three.
Following one of these routes is a good way to get to one of the parks listed above from your home.

Here are some of my favorites:

This route goes along Scyene Rd in South Dallas and then up 2nd Ave past Fair Park. It then goes west on Canton in Deep Ellum and along Young St. in Downtown Dallas and across the Trinity on Commerce. It is a great route to see many interesting places, including Fair Park, Deep Ellum, the Farmer's Market and alot of the Downtown monuments (Dealy Plaza, Old Courthouse, Book Depository, etc.).
